RitzPix offers one-hour photo books that you can pick up at the store or custom cover photo books that you design online and have shipped directly to your home. Although the one-hour book is great when you need it now, the custom cover book is comparable in quality to the other photo book printers that we review on this site. Therefore, we will only review the custom cover book.

RitzPix now offers a line of Lay-Flat books. This is a premium feature, but these books do not have the premium price that some other sites have. I would love to compare the quality with other lay-flat books.

The RitzPix photo book software allows you to choose different speeds to upload your pictures. If you only want 4x6 pictures you can use the fastest upload speed because it compresses your pictures some and this might not be satisfactory for larger pictures. They also analyze the resolution quality of the picture before you upload it. Unfortunately, the resolution quality of some of my scanned pictures was not enough for the Ritz Pictures quality standards. Since I wasn't going to use them for prints, I uploaded some to see if they had enough resolution to use in photo books. After checking this out, there was enough resolution in my scanned pictures to include in the photo book, but they were definitely not able to be used as a full page picture.

The photo book software in RitzPix is created for people who don't want to spend a lot of time making choices in their photo books, but it has a lot more design capability than appears at first. When choosing your layout you have two different choices: economic or design. The economic will give you the fewest number of pages in your book as possible, while the design option will give you more layout options. You cannot change the layouts the design gives you, so this isn't the publisher for you if you want that design capability.

You can change your backgrounds and apply different borders to your pictures to give the book a customized look. It is hard to find, but you can also make any picture the background of a page. It would be hard for a scrapbooker to make a book of just their pages they have designed elsewhere, but it could be done with some effort. The design options also allow you to layer your pictures, embellishments, and text.
