PRINTER PROFILES

Before your file is actually printed, it goes through an algorithm,
called a PRINTER PROFILE, which determines how to separate your file into exactly how much of each ink, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and blacK to use to print the information stored in each pixel of your file and even if your file is already CMYK! Can anyone verify this?
There exist many standard profiles, but the printer will use only one. Knowing exactly which one can help you know how to prepare your files for print.
I ask anyone who has any of this information to make it available on this site. Maybe we can generate a list.

My color bar book sorely depends on it. I don't have enough money for trial and error. A related but DIFFERENT question is, does the printer use or ignore a COLORSPACE PROFILE embedded in your file?

Artscow and Viovio
by: Anonymous

Artscow uses the Xerox iGen4 to print photobooks. They recommend using Adobe98 profile for your files, but still don't give you the printer profile. (the magenta is very strong.)

It turns out that Viovio uses the Xerox iGen3, and they have an EXCELLENT section on managing color which is also EASY to find! I am trying them after my latest Artscow order comes.

Printer profiles outside my level of knowledge
by: Linda

I have never looked into printer profiles before. Do you have a few printers that you'd like to check out? That would be easier than trying to find this out for everyone right now.
