Lean purse I leave you,
Though without regret
You’ll find that money
Is not that hard to get.
But other things
I have to leave to you:
The grass and hills,
The stars, the sky so blue,
The meadows, streams,
The seasons as they come;
Your journeying
Can be a joyous sum.



I leave you dreams,
A sense of right and wrong,
A thankful heart
And in that heart a song;
I leave your friends,
A gift for making more;
I leave you time-
My son, there’s much in store
For you to see,
To know, to hear, to do.
All precious things
Are those I leave to you!
