When doing a Clark Color review, the first thing you're always going to talk about is the differences --mostly positive ones-- in this printer's photo book software.

Creating a Clark Color Photo Book

Creating a photo book at Clark Color is easy, and really have great photo book sotftware with lots of nice options. Uploading pictures was easy to do and the muli-uploader worked quite well. The pictures were easy to add to the book project. I did not see any integration with any of the photo networking sites for the uploading of additional pictures.

Themes, Layouts, and Backgrounds

When you start a project you choose the theme, size, and cover before even choosing the pictures, which I think streamlines the process a little bit, and makes it easier to select which photos you actually plan to use. Each theme comes with a set of backgrounds and I was afraid that you would be limited to only these choices. However, that is not the case -- you can choose a background from any of the numerous themes offered once you are working on your book.

"Magic Layouts" Feature

In doing this Clark Color review, I found that this company actually had something I haven't seen in any photo book printer's software before - something called a magic layout. If you choose the magic layout option, you can change the layout automatically when you drag and drop a photo onto the background of the page. The layout automatically changes to incorporate the new picture. I was quite impressed with how this created some really nice layouts. You can also change where you want to put the text on the page and it will adjust the layout accordingly.

Help and Customer Service

The Help within the Clark Color software was a pretty good stepwise tutorial to make a few different projects. It did not have a search feature,though. The help outside the software was hard to find -- you had to go through several FAQ's before you could send an email to customer service if you still had a question, which can always be a bit frustrating!
